Like any other crisis in the history of mankind, Covid-19 is also source of new innovations and opportunities. EIT Manufacturing’s CEO Klaus BEETZ sees at least three opportunities for Europe’s manufacturing sector based on the learnings gathered so far:

  • Accelerating digitalisation: There is already evidence suggesting that companies that are further in their industry 4.0 journey have managed the crisis better
  • Rethinking supply chains: With big multinationals rethinking their supply chains to mitigate risks, this can be an opportunity for European SMEs with nearshoring and dual sourcing.
  • New ways of working and producing: Finding ways of moving from a predetermined manufacturing to production processes that are more flexible, and therefore more resilient
